TMJ Therapy in Monroe, WI
What Is TMJ Dysfunction?
TMJ dysfunction is caused by a malfunction of the temporomandibular joint, which acts as a sliding hinge that connects your jawbone to your skull. Symptoms include pain and discomfort along the jawbone and can make it painful to move your jaw. While jaw pain and discomfort don’t always equate to TMJ dysfunction, if you also experience headaches, have trouble chewing, pain in the face, jaw, and ears, or hear a clicking/popping sound when you open and close your mouth, you more than likely have a TMJ disorder.
Get Relief from TMJ Dysfunction
The first step in treating a TMJ disorder is proper diagnosis. Unfortunately, many patients go undiagnosed for years because the symptoms of TMJ dysfunction mimic other medical issues, and their family physician may not know enough about TMJ disorders to make the connection.
Our doctors are well trained in facial anatomy and understand how a healthy TMJ should function. They can perform a specific examination to determine if you have a TMJ problem. Once you are diagnosed, you may require a special oral appliance to help position your jaw correctly and relieve the stress on your TM joints. This should eliminate or at least minimize any pain or tension.
