Dental Implants

Restorative Dentistry in Monroe, WI

When you have missing teeth, an alternative solution to dentures is dental implants. While dentures are removable, dental implants provide permanent new teeth to restore your mouth’s function and appearance. Dental implants are a permanent way to replace one, some, or all of your teeth.

What Are Dental Implants?

A missing tooth needs to be replaced, bottom line. Patients have several choices when it comes to tooth replacement. A dental implant is the only fully permanent tooth replacement option for missing teeth.

There are two main components to a dental implant: the implant itself, which is not visible, and the prosthetic, the visible part. The implant part is a titanium post that is surgically implanted into the jawbone where a tooth is missing. This part of the process requires surgery, and we work with top oral surgeons in the area for our patients who require implant placement.

The titanium post that is inserted into the jawbone acts like a tooth root and stays in place because it will eventually fuse with the existing jawbone. Once the implant site is fully healed, the prosthetic is placed on top of it for a natural-looking restoration.

Patients have several options when it comes to finishing a dental implant. An individual implant can be finished with a porcelain crown. For two or more implants, the patient may instead choose a dental bridge or a partial denture. Patients with all or most of their teeth missing may opt for implant-supported dentures.
